Tom Roberts Adventure Centre, on Wednesday 2nd.June 2010
to see for himself the progress made
since
TRAC is a Christian–based Adventure and
Camping Centre which has been operating for the last 3 years providing outdoor
camping primarily for organised youth groups. Over the last 5 years a small
group of dedicated volunteers have been working twice a week 50 weeks of the
years carrying out extensive works of renovations, improvements and extensions
of old farm buildings.
Spring Bank Holiday week saw the
handover of two ground floor rooms providing 12 bedspaces to add an existing room with 5 beds. The 17 beds are part of larger complex due for completion
by 2012.The centre will then be able
to host 36 campers indoors with dining room; kitchen and
all the relevant toilets/and showers including provision for those who
are wheelchair bound.
In addition the farm has the usual range
of facilities for outdoor campers together with a Sports Barn- cum- all-weather
facility, dining room and kitchen for 50 campers together with an assault
course, zip line, football pitch, showers and toilets.
The Chairman of TRAC Mike Hencher said
“countless thousands of hours of volunteer labour, donations of free materials
and professional advice combined with cash gifts and grants have gone into
making the centre a reality. However three grants, totalling £20000 received
during 2009, including the £12000 from Gloucestershire Environmental Trust, have
made an enormous difference. Cllr. Blick was equally impressed “On behalf of the Town Council and the people of Newent I welcome the centre and look forward to watching its successful development. I was very impressed with the facilities and the work of the volunteers in achieving so much in a relatively short period of time Tom Roberts Adventure Centre Enquiries: Phone 08453 380350 or 01531 822606 or Mobile 07969 614208
